Happy words from happydough

We caught up with a fellow Mumpreneur who like us loves to provide products that Mums will love…and children will love even more!

Tell us a little about yourself

Hello! My name is Ayomi and I am a Mum of 2 children, one who is 7 and the other is 3. I live in gorgeous Richmond in West London and I run happydough. I won’t disclose my age, but I grew up dancing along to Kylie and Jason!

I run happydough…..but what is happydough?

Happydough is my third baby, my own small business. I started happydough when I discovered the benefits of playdough. My pinned post of my facebook page details the huge rewards playdough can provide. As I researched more, I realised that learning can be fun, and so tried to make packs that were fun but encouraged learning through play (I am a mum after all!).

I am also a massive believer in children reading and using their imagination to spark creativity. But not all children like to read, and that is ok. So my idea was to give children some happydough themed around a book, whilst mum or dad read to them. This would then inspire their play and stimulate their imagination.

From there I ventured into the world of crayons, and again, who said developing motor skills and hand eye co-ordination couldn’t be fun? Novelty crayons to spark an interest, a piece of paper and leave the rest up to them!

I have always loved a party and since my children came along, I have thrown myself into their parties. (I have a past background in events). So I started making their party bags and really enjoyed it. I also realised how much we put into the bags that just gets thrown away. So I developed a bag that contained all my fun, but practical items!

What products do you make and sell?

My three main products are happydough (homemade playdough), novelty crayons and party bags….but watch this space for a new salt dough themed product…..

Why playdough?

I often get asked, why playdough? Why is it so important that children play with it? Well, here are just a few of the benefits:

  • Fine Motor Development
  • Hand Eye Co-Ordination
  • Imagination and Creativity
  • Calming and Soothing
  • Maths and Literacy Development

These are just a few of the benefits. So next time you are thinking about buying a new toy/game, why not give happydough a try.

  • Hand Eye Co-Ordination
By poking, squishing, rolling, squeezing and flattening, you again are improving hand muscles, but also hand eye co-ordination.
  • Imagination and Creativity
By adding elements like straws, colours, glitter or jewels to playdough kits, you encourage children to use their imagination in play. Baking pretend cakes, making sweets or a fairy princess, it is all down to using their imagination.
  • Calming and Soothing
One of the best advantages of playdough is the ability to add smells to calm the senses or ignite them! By squeezing and pounding the playdough, the stress relief it can bring can be likened to the adult stress ball.
  • Maths and Literacy Development
Playdough allows children to form letters, learn the alphabet through shape, spell their name, make numbers, practice addition and subtraction and compare lengths, thickness and weight.

Do you cater for special occasions such as children’s birthdays?

I most definitely do! As I said, I love a party and really enjoy making a party bag feel special and something that a child can’t wait to dive into and investigate. I want to make products that children will not find in other party bags.

What are your best selling products?

My bestsellers are my mud happydough which is cocoa scented and my crayon party favours.

Where can I order your products?

Is playdough just for kids?!

Come on, admit it, we all love a squish of playdough 😉 I love when my customers say they also get joy out of moulding and creating with their children.  It is a great stress reliever and happydough has a great smell too!

Finally, what keeps you motivated when running a business?

My customers keep me motivated. I love trying to make products that match their needs and I adore the feedback I get (good and bad) as it helps me create and design new products. It also is a reminder on those quieter days as to why I am doing this. I love children and I love crafts, a perfect combination.

So now I have regaled you with the benefits of happydough, crayons and party bags, please do pop on over and say hi. I would love to hear from you and if you have any specific questions or a custom make, just let me know, I love a challenge!

Much love from Ayomi at happydough x
